CLOUDY DREAM

Oh yes, I can remember
Many different times
It all seems so pretty
Pretty fine
And now I see us slipping
All down the hit parade
Like a player in the tragedy
In a late night arcade

Where do you crawl to
When you want a bite to eat
There's holes in your pockets Cardboard boxes on your feet
You see the sign:
"No loitering in here"
As you try to talk the doorman
Into getting another beer

When you've finished talking
Into someone else's mobile
You suddenly get that shudder
It's that same old feeling you file
That takes you back to status
To try and score a tab
Just as you see her stepping
Into a cab
To take her away

Message : Oh, you're thinking
That it should not be like this
Even though you feel
It shouldn't be
You know that it is
You were so hot
Was a teenage scream
Riding high horses
Or so it seemed

It would be so nice
Like the good old bad days
Champagne and moon
How cool

Tackle party
No time for school
You remember those hazy mornings
At the health farm

Caviar for breakfast
???
Massage in the parlour
Cocktails in the shade
Dreaming by a pool
Where the cutie from dream begins
Maybe making plans
For meeting down town

You got to rush
You got to go
You got to push
You got to blow
You wanna stay
But you don't know
How long's today's soup line

You got to rush
We gotta go
We got to hurry
Gotta go
You wanna be
But we don’t know
What time's the last supper

How long's today's soup line
How far to the last supper
How long's today's soup line
How far, oh, to the last supper

You quit showbiz
To sell insurance lots
Trampling over everyone
To have them sign the dots
You became a cop and got busted
Oh, from the force
For dressing up like Elvis
And riding backwards on a horse

Thile you were talking in the hall
It never should have worked out
This way at all
You just dropped a bomb
Oh, you're thinking
It should not be like this
Even though you feel it shouldn't be
You know that it is

But you were so hot once
A bona fide teenage scream
Ride those high horses
In your cloudy dreams

You got go push
You got to go
You got to push
You got to blow
You wanna be
But you don't know
You're last weeks paper

You got to rush
You got to go
You got to hurry
Got to blow
You wanna be
But you don't know
How far is never
???
You wanna ??? to keep it cool
You make your move
But as a rule
You invite her to come quietly, yeah

So you dumped the lap dance racket In favour of the street
Became a born again hobo
With cardboard boxes
Back on your feet
You say you sought the truth
And you tumbled to it in the street
That the only way to live
Is to lie and cheat

You had no time to wait
Time was moving on
Too late coz you said
Those last goodbyes
When I think how everything
You say can never last
How soon the memories
Fade into the past

You got to push
You got to go
You fortune boys
Gone with the wind

Keikka oli edennyt jo tovin, kun Hasselta katkesi kitarasta kaksi kieltä....No nyt meni jo toinen kieli, hän kuulutti, laittelen skitan kuntoon, otetaan tähän väliin Jim Pembroke ja Jimin uusi biisi, she dops you yesterday.

KABUL GRILL (Rechardt/Pembroke) 6:32

I went down to the bar last night
They changed the name
To the Kabul Grill
Such a surprise met my eyes
They were a-stomping
In the frying still

Booby-trapping the doughnuts
TNT in the tea
TV dinners flying
Waitresses a-crying
Freedom-fighting
For the French Fries

Oh, oh-oh, ah-ah
There’s trouble at the Kabul Grill
Oh-oh, oh-oh
They’re stomping
And a-fighting still

And they were freedom-fighting
In the men’s room
Kicking chains and tearing ass
Ripping up the paper,
A real messy caper (???)
As Bogart came in to say mass

They were throwing
‘Round the sandals
Tearing up their sneakers
And brogues
Melting down the candles
And burning the fandles
Smashing the spotlights and strobes

Oh, oh-oh etc.

Guitar solo

Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
There's trouble at the Kabul Grill
Oh-oh, oh-oh
They’re out there fighting still

Yes, I went down to the Kabul Grill
It was not as pretty sight
Burgers on the floor
Lurkers by the door
Move for freedom, having a fight

Maybe a change in the management
Might get it back on track
No automatic weapons allowed inside
No nuclear missiles in the back

They’re all still hurting
From last night
But if you say something:
"The drinks are on me"
They’ll be your friends for evermore
They’re hard to please
As you can see

Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Trouble at the Kabul Grill
Oh-oh, oh-oh
While they’re all fighting still
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Trouble at the Kabul Grill
Oh-oh, oh-oh
They’re down there fighting still

Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh

(Spoken: What’s that moving out in the dark?)

Guitar solo

Brilliant lyric. Totally outstanding! And with the music ... even better!

Rekku as good as ever on this disc, too. Brilliant tunes and solos. No other guitarist sounds even remotely like him. Has anyone tried to analyse his style? He doesn't seem to solo around the usual "boxes", but in a position behind them. So if soloing in C/Am he wouldn't be on the 5th to 8th fret box, but moving around 2nd to 5th fret. His pull-offs sound that way, particularly the ones on the third string (pulling off from 5th to 2nd fret with fingers 1 and 4, then going down to 2nd string with the middle finger doing a bend: his no. 1 trademark, I suppose) - you can't get that effect in standard position. This takes quite a lot of finger stretching, using correct hand positioning etc. I think he brought a lot of this over from his cello playing, which reminds me that it's strange he never played cello on any of the records.

Anyway, I'm rambling now. Comments welcome, though.

Brilliant, tusind tak!

Here's a revised version:

SANDPAINTING (Rechardt/Pembroke) 4:04

She seemed to be
Like an Indian princess
Arizona sound
Never had a penny piece
To buy no evening gown

But when she wanted
She could turn it on
Flashing buck skin smile
She could get
The slowest hand in town
Ride a crooked country mile

Ah, Miss Terree,
She probably thinks that
Everybody loves her badly
I went down to the Hide Away Bar
Kind of felt she was right, sadly

Movie moguls
They dropped their cigars
In the swimming pool
All the jaws were hitting the floor
When she walked by so cool

And if you’re ever
That last lonely cowboy
On the bar stool at the end
And the bar keeper has a place
He needs to go
And don’t you really, really
Feel like crying
Tears they flow

As you hold
Those last trembling quarters
The price of maybe not staying alone
You get that last shot of rye in
Make for the telephone

Honey, wanna tell you
I know it’s been a bare faced crime
And I’m quitting my low down ways
I really mean it this time

A man can find himself in Jericho
Pocket full of dollars on the trail
When senoritas and poker
Help him run out of gold
You have to try
And sandpaint the bail

So there I was
Walking down the street
The third day back in town
Found myself at the Hide Away Bar
When in she walks in an evening gown

(Sandpainting ... Sandpainting ... In her evening gown)

Message : Here's my attempt at sussing the lyric for another great song on the "Some Several Moons" CD. Please put me right where I might be wrong.

NOTE: Bow Lane is in Central London. I just found out I was actually having a cup of tea with a good friend two weeks ago just around the corner from it. Not a particularly romantic place, I'd say, but perhaps the song isn't either when you think about it. Still, it has that incredible other-worldly spirit that goes right your heart and is so typically Pembroke. Takes me back to that Finnish cafeteria with the jukebox where I first heard "Tramdriver" in 1975 and immediately flew right into space.

The man's a genius. Anyway, here goes:

BOW LANE (Rechardt/Pembroke)

Let me take you
To a place again
We don’t need a train
Short way down the lane

How many times
I made that trip
Ah! Your lady getting dillydally
On the way down Bow Lane

I was sleeping
I was dreaming
Lost inside a cloud
Laughing out loud

Foggy old morning
Oh! Murky abyss
“A first kiss,” she said
We do it like this

It don’t take long
You can’t hurry

I was waiting
Waiting for the rain
To reach inside my brain
When she came back again

I was shaking
Another kiss
What’s this thing called, babes
Something you should not miss

The best was gone
So don’t worry

Dillydally on the way
Make that trip a foggy day
In a cloud I missed the train
Dreaming on my way again

I was moaning
Oh! I was spent
She was yawning
She came and went

So hands in pockets
Found a note
Said, “See you, sailor
By the way I lent your coat.”

Maybe tomorrow
She’ll be there again
I get my coat back
Yeah, maybe lose my head

If it’s so wrong
Why should I worry

Hand in pocket, found a note
"By the way I lent your coat.
See you later down that lane
You can get your coat back again."

Message : Hi Progdolyte

I've decided in my head that you are probably right about your corrections to "Chord Squad". I'm particularly embarrassed about having missed out the Rickenbacker bit, since I actually have one of those myself (a 330 semi acoustic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickenbacker_330). However, the line might actually be in full: "You want a Rickenbacker? That's okay, we'll get it sorted" with JP stumbling on a couple of words. Hard to say.

In "Sandpainting" it certainly would make more sense with "Indian Princess", but it sounds to me distinctively as if he leaves out the "n" at the end of the first word. Still, for the sake of logic I'm willing to follow you on that one as well.

So good work and thanks for you help and please keep them coming!

I just thought that if "Chorder 3" is a digital tool for composers it DID make sense. Still your suggestion is probably more probable!

"What's a matter" is just an Americanized way to say "What's the matter". Would be typical Pembroke, but not a big issue, really.
